LEGO games are already a tradition, always ready for the most exciting times of the year, such as Christmas. They have been transformed into very fun titles to share with the family, with a split-screen cooperative mode that is already traditional in the sector. On this case, the LEGO collection adopts Marvel characters to make them participate in an adventure full of humor and fun. The style follows the trend seen in other LEGO adaptations, but opts for features to distance itself from titles such as LEGO Batman 2 DC Super Heroes. The result, as you will see below, is a game that provides fun for a while and has the fundamental hook of having numerous recognizable characters.
The essence of LEGO games, something that is faithfully represented in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, is that we are introduced to a platform, action and puzzle adventure. The development team has taken into account the work done before and adapted it to the Marvel world with a very well-woven story. The adventure has a script that puts us in control of different characters in a solid and meaningful way. In this aspect, there is an improvement compared to LEGO Batman 2 DC Super Heroes, where it seemed that there were so many characters that the developers did not manage to implement them all well in development. In LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, the characters that we control throughout the game are very well chosen and there is no attempt to give everyone their moment of glory.
A good LEGO game
To get to see all the heroes we will have to go through the free mode, something that we will end up doing in order to unlock all the content hidden in the game. More than 10 hours of gameplay in story mode, plus all the hours we will invest later in obtaining all the secrets, make this production interesting enough for those who like to enjoy long experiences. The game does not have, however, a very high level of difficulty, as is typical of the franchise, but entertainment is guaranteed. The puzzles will mainly consist of discovering which character and ability to use in order to advance or perform a certain action. And there will be no shortage of boss fights, where we will have to memorize their routines in order to defeat them by finding their weak points.
The curious and very interesting thing is that the characters don’t just have one specific ability that they can use, but they incorporate different resources. This has been essential, since otherwise it would be impossible to represent the heroes and villains of the Marvel universe. For example, Spider-Man, who we see in the story mode very quickly, has his spider sense, but he can also slide around the stage at high speed. When we manage to unlock Stan Lee we will find the best example of this, since he has an assortment of abilities that go over some of the best in the Marvel universe (from Hulk’s transformation to Wolverine’s claws).
The fun implicit in the development of the game is complemented by the experience of entering a game that greatly respects everything related to the Marvel universe. The little ones in the house may not understand all the references, but the Marvel fan, who has devoured the publisher’s comics for years, will appreciate that the developers have implemented all kinds of curiosities.
A great representation of comics and movies
TT Games has made a great effort with this title. The settings are very well represented, making it easy to identify classic places from the Marvel universe and the level of interaction, as usual, is of a high quality. The freedom of movement once we move around the setting at will leaves a very good feeling, covering a large area and being able to fly to the S.H.I.E.L.D. helipad. We must also acknowledge how well represented the characters are, something that was not easy considering how different some of the usual models used in the LEGO world are. Venom’s body or, above all, Hulk’s enormous size, are factors that give the game an additional point of quality and innovation compared to other adaptations of the franchise. There are some graphic errors, object transfers and other bugs, but they are something that fans of this type of adaptations made in LEGO are already used to.
Hey!, I know your voice
Rob Westwood is in charge of a very superheroic soundtrack, which is reminiscent of songs we’ve heard in some of the Marvel movies. The game have voices that fit very well in some cases and not so well in others. Is really great to hear the participation of Stan Lee and actor Clark Gregg, the latter playing Agent Coulson, but almost all the voices are great.
Opting to purchase LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is a safe bet. The game has all the ingredients that make the franchise shine and features an exciting and fun development, full of recognizable characters. There are around 150 different characters, both the most famous and the most unknown, and they are all integrated into a game that takes into account the history of the Marvel universe. Usually, these days, is very cheap, so is a game that you can buy a enjoy with great joy.
