It won’t be released until 2027, but it must be said that Itachi: Hunted Abodes: Wandering Through 2000s Tokyo Culture is shaping up to be one of the most interesting and distinctive games we’ve seen in recent months. Its aesthetic and concept will make their in-person debut at the Tokyo Game Show 2025, taking place from September 25th to 28th at Makuhari Messe in Chiba.
Created by room6, Itachi: Hunted Abodes is an occult-suspense adventure that explores Tokyo’s subculture of the 2000s. Players will explore the capital in a very different time, where habits, technology, and places were vastly different from today. The protagonist will be tasked with sending back the supernatural spirits residing in various properties. To do so, Itachi must spend a week living in each property and face some of the greatest psychological challenges anyone has ever faced. The spirits of the deceased, known as Ubusuna, will not make it easy.

Itachi: Hunted Abodes is an occult suspense adventure that explores Tokyo’s subculture of the 2000s. From live music venues and maid cafes to Jingubashi Bridge, a popular spot for lolitas, you’ll trace the history of subculture in the 2000s and return the ghosts that have haunted properties back to their hometowns.
Tokyo in the 2000s
With no home to return to, college student Itachi takes a part-time job living in a psychologically flawed property, known as a “disaster property”. No resume required, food, clothing, and shelter are provided. It was supposed to be a low-budget job, where all you had to do was live there for a week and complete some basic inspections, and you’d receive 100,000 yen in cash. The only hassle was that he had to live with Tanuki, a real estate agent.
Unbeknownst to Itachi, the property was haunted by a mysterious “Ubusuna” (Landgods) left behind by the deceased previous resident. Tanuki and the real estate agents’ secret: using Itachi as a decoy to manifest the “Ubusuna” return the property to its hometown, and free the property…
As we explore the regrets of the young Tokyo residents who died and the people they left behind, an adventure through Tokyo subculture begins!
Two intersecting perspectives
During the investigation, the story progresses by switching between the perspectives of Itachi and Tanuki. Itachi is an ordinary person who cannot see the supernatural… but he has exceptional communication skills. He’s adept at gathering information, even from band girls and maids he meets for the first time. Tanuki, on the other hand, is shy, but can “see” the supernatural directly. Negate Ubuzu’s attacks and gather information. The intersection of different perspectives on what can be seen may reveal the hidden truth!
To get a full picture of the case, you can’t stay holed up in a mysterious property. Head out into the city and explore Tokyo’s subculture spots. You’ll encounter underground live music venues where visual kei bands gather, maid cafes at the forefront of moe culture, and Jingubashi Bridge in Harajuku, a popular spot for lolitas… By tracing the history of subculture in the 2000s, the mystery of the case will gradually be revealed.
Return the monsters to where they belong
In the exorcism part, you will discover the true nature of the strange phenomenon through a ritual called “Usanmusubi”. Using the information and items collected in the investigation part, your goal is to uncover the name, birthplace, and cause of death of the Usanmusubi and return it to its rightful home. However, Itachi is constantly in danger during the exorcism, so be careful not to make any mistakes…

A playable version of Itachi: Hunted Abodes will be on display at booth room6 (Hall 10 C11) in the indie game corner of “Tokyo Game Show 2025” which will be held at Makuhari Messe from Thursday, September 25th, 2025 to Sunday, September 28th, 2025. In addition, original Itachi: Hunted Abodes stickers will be distributed in limited quantities to those who register the game on their wishlist.
There will also be a photo spot inspired by the worlds of Itachi: Hunted Abodes and “Donut Hole.” Be sure to visit the Room 6 booth, which also features other noteworthy titles.
