Samurai Pizza Cats are back with a new video game

Are you ready to sing the iconic Samurai Pizza Cats tune again? Nobody expected it, but there will be a new game from the legendary manga and anime that swept decades ago. In addition, the developers have brought back both the English and the original Japanese voice team, which will allow fans to enjoy it in an immense way.

It is the 35th anniversary of the anime and Red Dunes Games wants to celebrate it in the best way imaginable. The game will place us in the city of Edoropolis, where robotic animals live together and samurai cats live all kinds of adventures. The Japanese version was titled Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, while its western adaptation came with the title Samurai Pizza Cats. It could be seen worldwide on different channels and became the entertainment of many children.

The game is being developed by Blast Zero, the team that previously amazed with Jitsu Squad, a game that already, at the time, certainly felt inspired by Samurai Pizza Cats. The game will be distributed by Red Dunes Games, and its worldwide release on a multi-platform basis has been confirmed.

Although a Samurai Pizza Cats game was released on NES in the 90s that focused on action and platforms, in this case it will be a 2D Action RPG. During the game we will have the opportunity to change between the different protagonists to take advantage of their personal skills, with which we can fight and solve puzzles. From what we have seen so far, the aesthetics are not only reminiscent of the original anime, but at the gameplay level there are reminiscences of the legendary Mystical Ninja Goemon franchise. In addition, something that fans will like to know is that the original scriptwriter of the series, Satoru Akahori, is collaborating in the development and supervision of the script.

The voices, as we said, will recover those of the English and Japanese audio. The Japanese version features Kappei Yamaguchi as Yattarou, Ai Orikasa as Pururun, Ikuya Sawaki as Kitsunezuka Ko’on-no-Kami, Naoki Tatsuta as Karasu Gennarisai, and Kenyu Horiuchi as the narrator. Additionally, Seiichiro Yamashita will join the cast as Sukashii, replacing Jurota Kosugi. The English version also features Rick Jones as Speedy Cerviche, Sonja Ball as Polly Esther, Terrence Scammell as Guido Anchovy and the narrator, and Dean Hagopian as Seymour “The Big” Cheese.

Kappei Yamaguchi (Yattarou)

When I first heard about the game, I was absolutely thrilled, and now that it has become a reality, I couldn’t be happier. I was especially surprised to learn that the game is being developed in the Netherlands! It felt amazing to say ‘Tenkamuteki no Daishōri!!’ (‘Unrivaled, ultimate victory!!’) again. I love Yattarou so much!”

On reuniting with the original cast: “Hearing Kon-chan (Ko’on-no-Kami) and Gen-chan (Gennarisai) banter, Kenyū-san’s witty narration, and the Nyankī squad’s signature introductions—it was like stepping back into the recording studio from all those years ago. I was also blown away by how faithfully the trailer recreated the original animation style. The love and dedication from the Dutch development team truly shine through. And of course, a big thank you to Seiichirō Yamashita for bringing Sukashii to life!”
