Bandai Namco announces a new update for the Death Note: Killer Within game, available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam. This update adds two new roles: X, Kira, and N. The game receives patches V.1.5.6 and V.1.5.7 and also introduces other new features, such as a 3D viewing mode that allows for more immersive exploration of environments.
This 3D mode allows the player to freely move the camera and view everything around the character. The gameplay itself remains the same, but a different way of performing tasks, activating Command Cards, and passing judgments has been introduced. In this mode, characters seen on screen will look toward the player’s position, helping to quickly detect members of the opposing side. Additionally, in this mode, to facilitate gameplay, the security cameras used by L emit an identifying sound.
The official text released by Bandai Namco indicates the following about the new roles:
The new “X-Kira” role can be set to replace the previous Kira. X-Kira can perform similar actions as Kira, but is always alone to start the game, with no followers. However, X-Kira can secretly make 1 Investigator into a Kira Follower during meeting phases.
- Only NPA chief and investigators are eligible to be assigned as Kira followers (L, N, Watari, and Mello are not eligible).
- Half of the players, including L, Watari, and Mello, cannot be made into Kira Followers when selected.
- You cannot re-select players who could not become Kira Followers when selected previously.
*Even if X Kira is assigned, NPA chief and investigators may not be able to become Kira Followers.
Furthermore, the Command Cards available to X-Kira are different from the ones available to Kira. The “Fake Surveillance Tasks” requires the selected player to approach other players. (Note that this is balanced by the inability to use Kira’s video messages). It’s a handy Command Card that can cause confusion and help you figure out the identity of L by examining who shows up for surveillance.
Similarly, “N” is a role that you can utilize in place of L. N uses unique Command Cards that differ from L, and while N can’t use Investigation, Evidence or a Speaker, they can use the “SPK Tracker” and “Money Chaos” Command Cards. While activated, the “SPK Tracker” notifies all players about the activities of another player during the next Meeting Phase. When paired with NPC testimony, it’s a useful way to determine if a player is on Team Kira. These effects continue until the end of the Action Phase that day, but it’s possible to use other Command Cards during that period.
While “Money Chaos” is in effect, no players except N can tell who other players are, and Team Kira can’t steal IDs. This can be an effective way to survive until the next Meeting Phase while being pursued by another player, or if your identity as N gets out.
As you can see, X-Kira and N will introduce new gameplay strategies to both Team Kira and Team L.
New Paid DLC
This update has two new waves of paid DLC content: Premium Avatar – L (Swimsuit) and Premium Customization Track Vol. 6.
Premium Avatar – L (Swimsuit) is a set containing L in a swimsuit with a plastic Watermelon and Diving Goggles. Idle animation changes to sitting on a blown-up watermelon when using the L (Swimsuit) avatar equipped with the Watermelon.

Premium Customization Track Vol. 6 is available introducing Customization Tracks, which allows you to obtain a variety of customization parts and rewards as you gain levels by playing. They include additional rewards if you buy the Premium Customization Track
