The last day on Earth according to South Korea in The Great Flood, coming soon to Netflix

Films that portray the end of the world are always successful and captivate audiences, but we’re usually more accustomed to seeing the Hollywood perspective. However, with The Great Flood, the proposal comes from a very different place: South Korea. With this film directed by Kim Byung-woo, which will premiere on Netflix on December 19, we will witness the last day on Earth with a typical disaster film story in which a catastrophic flood will dramatically engulf the world. Only a few survivors seem to be trying to make it in a sinking apartment building.

To promote the upcoming release, Netflix has released a teaser trailer, which is the best way to better understand the film’s starting point. Below, we reproduce what Netflix has said about it.

About The Great Flood

The teaser trailer opens with the calm of an ordinary morning for An-na (Kim Da-mi), an artificial intelligence researcher, as her son Ja-in (Kwon Eun-seong) wakes her up. However, their peace is quickly shattered as they face a world submerged by a record-breaking great flood. Rain keeps pouring as the floodwaters rise, and the film’s realism and tension pull viewers into their desperate escape, culminating in a rooftop standoff where An-na must make an impossible decision.

Their struggle takes on new meaning when Hee-jo (Park Hae-soo), a member of a security team, arrives with a mysterious mission that may hold the key to humanity’s future. The trailer hints at larger mysteries, including a rocket bound for space and unknown golden fragments, promising a story that stretches the imagination and challenges the boundaries of survival.

Director Kim Byung-woo’s meticulous storytelling and the compelling performances of Kim Da-mi and Park Hae-soo drive the film, elevating this unpredictable tale of survival and sacrifice.
