During PAX West, which took place over the past weekend, Square Enix unveiled the opening cinematic for Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles, one of the most anticipated remakes of the year. The presentation took place at a special panel titled “Making of Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles,” which is also available online and can be viewed throughout this article.

The video offers a glimpse into Ramza and Delita’s younger days, helping to set the stage for their adventure through Ivalice. Another highlight of the video is the soundtrack, which will also captivate players when Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles hits stores on September 30.

Here’s what Square Enix had to say about PAX and the game ahead of its release:

Held before a packed audience of enthusiastic fans, the panel featured Director Kazutoyo Maehiro and Art Director Hiroshi Minagawa, with voice actor Ben Starr serving as host. Together, they explored the development of the original game, along with the enhanced features that both longtime fans and newcomers can look forward to in this upcoming tactical RPG, including refined graphics, a newly enriched script, full voice acting, and a suite of quality-of-life updates designed to deliver a modern gameplay experience.

The full panel is available to watch via VOD here:

Developed by key members of the original Final Fantasy Tactics team like Maehiro and Minagawa alongside a new generation of creators, Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles blends legacy and innovation. Among the fresh faces is Co-Director Ayako Yokoyama, whose unique vision is helping shape the next chapter of this beloved tactical RPG.

Today, Square Enix unveiled a new blog feature titled “Next-Gen Visionaries Part 1: The Final Fantasy Tactics Co-Director Shaping The Ivalice Chronicles,” offering an in-depth interview with Yokoyama. The piece explores her journey as a game developer, her role as Co-Director, and her creative approach to reimagining Ivalice for a new era. Part 2 of the series, which delves into how Yokoyama’s fresh perspective is elevating The Ivalice Chronicles to new heights, will be published tomorrow, September 3 at 8:00 AM Pacific / 11:00 AM Eastern on the Square Enix Blog.
