Dragami Games announced today, July 24th, that will collaborate with Taiwanese company Nada Holdings to produce a new game in the Lollipop Chainsaw franchise and also to make an anime adaptation. The news began circulating on July 17th and has now been officially confirmed by the company.
Lollipop Chainsaw launched as a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 game in 2012 and achieved notable popularity thanks to its zombie-fighting gameplay featuring a chainsaw-wielding schoolgirl accompanied by her boyfriend’s head. In 2024, the remastered version was released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, reaching total franchise sales of over 1.5 million units.
The press release says:
“With a firm commitment to honoring the spirit of the original work, the development team includes key staff members who were involved in the previous title. The new project is also being developed with close attention to fan feedback. As with the original, the new title aims to recreate a world rich in dark humor. The development process will prioritize staying true to the distinctive tone and spirit of the original work, without imposing excessive creative restrictions in the name of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).”
Also, Lollipop Chainsaw now has an account on X.
While it’s unlikely James Gunn will collaborate on the game again, given his current focus as head of DC Comics films at Warner Bros. Discovery, it’s possible the company will tap other talent who supported the launch of the original game. For example, it’s worth remembering that cosplayer Jessica Nigri was the face of the game in its initial promotion as you can see in this video.
